Glowing with happiness
Pritima was about to begin training to become a nurse when she was diagnosed with a disabling condition that affects the vertebrae. At just 21, her dreams seemed to be over. But the Community Care team at Chinchpada Christian Hospital (CCH) have been supporting her to regain her strength, thanks to the generosity of people like you.
After Pritima was diagnosed, her condition got steadily worse. She couldn’t walk without help, and even sitting for too long became painful. She sank into depression.
Once the Community Care team heard about her, they began to visit her at home and encourage her. The team then helped her find funding from a government scheme so she could get the surgery she needed.
But Pritima hadn’t fully realised how much rehabilitation she would need after the surgery to regain her strength and mobility. She stayed in her room, discouraged by the pain she was still in after her operation.
After a few visits at home, the Community Care team were able to persuade Pritima to start the rehabilitation regime. Rachel, the occupational therapist from the team, remembers seeing how much Pritima improved once her rehabilitation began. ‘What we saw filled our hearts with joy. Her muscle strength, range of motion, and her standing tolerance had all improved.’
Rachel later went to visit Pritima following a further surgery. ‘Her eyes were glowing with happiness and her contagious smile. She was so excited to show that she was able to stand straight after a long time.’
Pritima says, ‘I’m so grateful to God for all He has done for me.’
CCH have recently started a second Community Care team, enabling them to reach even more patients. They provide end of life care, and also help with chronic disease management and support those like Pritima with disabilities. The support of people like you helps to make this work possible.
In the last year they have helped:
- 237 people with end-of-life care
- 238 people with sickle cell disease
- 338 people with TB
- 53 people with a disability
